About me

I have always had this idea of building a platform where I can bridge the gap between the layman and the macroeconomist. In today’s day and age where everything is open-sourced and shared, I believe in empowering people with the tools needed to understand the dynamics of today’s world. I do not believe in “proprietary” macroeconomic models that are opaque and non-replicable.

My biggest pet peeve is macro people who hide behind the jargon to make themselves sound smart…

Hans Rosling, perhaps one of the greatest data storytellers who ever lived, once told me that if I wanted to explain intangible concepts such as “inflation” and “economic growth” to the public, I must be able to tell them a good story. Because people can relate and empathize with stories.

My goal with this blog is to make macroeconomics accessible to non-economists. My hope is to provide visual narratives that do not need complicated explanations; though I will occasionally share some machine learning code.

I leverage technology to explore, and communicate interesting data insights to economists and public audiences.

WHO AM I?

I am an insights analyst at LinkedIn where I study labour patterns and behavioural trends of the world’s professionals.

My research interests are economic networks and financial technologies.

MY FORMER LIFE

I hung my hat as a researcher at the International Monetary Fund, where I worked as a staff research analyst for six-and-a-half years. It taught me a lot about the global macroeconomy, and most importantly, it gave me access to massive macroeconomic databases.

My obsession with economic data science brought me to the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, where I read Social Data Science at Keble College. I finished with a distinction and was awarded the Thesis Prize for my work on social network patterns of MPs during Brexit.
